FAQ

  • Can I return a product?
Yes you can. Please refer to our Shipping & Returns section on this website.
  • Does Upenya Skincare test on animals?
No. Upenya has never tested on animals at any stage of product development and never will. We also do not contract any third parties to conduct animal testing on our behalf. We do not explicitly state “No animal testing” on our packaging because we adopt the EU regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 on Cosmetic Products. This regulation fully bans animal testing for cosmetic products and their ingredients. The relevant provisions are found under Article 18 — Animal Testing.

  • What are the pH of your products?
Our formulations prioritize both ingredient potency and gentle skin compatibility. Because different actives perform best at specific pH levels—and adolescent skin averages around pH 5.5 in its natural, mildly acidic state— we align each blend to its ideal pH window. Thereby we ensure maximum efficacy without compromising skin comfort.
  • How do I conduct an at-home patch test?
Patch tests are an easy way to help predict if you will have a negative initial reaction to a new product. It is recommended to perform a patch test before incorporating a new product into your routine. Before using any new skincare product, apply a small amount to a discreet area (such as the inside of your forearm) and wait 24 hours. If you notice redness, itching, or irritation, discontinue use and consult a healthcare professional.
  • Where can I buy Upenya products?
You can buy Upenya at Takealot, https://jislaaikshop.co.za or on this website. We are busy expanding and will publish stockists on this site in due course.
  • How is the labelling of cosmetic products regulated in South Africa?
In South Africa, the labelling of cosmetic products is regulated by the Department of Health through the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act 54 of 1972). While South Africa does not currently have stand-alone, detailed cosmetic labelling regulations comparable to those in the EU, it aligns with international standards, particularly the SADC (Southern African Development Community) Guidelines for Cosmetic Products and the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009.
